Our Mission and Goals

NSEA Swim is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Wilmington, NC, that aims to increase water safety and prevent drowning in our community. We also wish to increase multicultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity in the sport of swimming with an inclusive environment at all levels of the sport. Our goal is to build a sport community where participants can work and learn together in a safe, supportive environment.

Our goals are:

  • Prevent Drowning — to give all children and adults the opportunity to learn how to swim so that they can be safe in and around the water.

  • Diversity in the Sport — to introduce underserved children to swimming and team swimming so that they might discover a healthy activity that will improve their physical fitness, raise their self-esteem, and expose them to values that will carry over into other aspects of their life.

  • Dedication to Fitness — to promote swimming as a lifetime activity that offers the positive benefits of competition, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

NSEA Swim's Statement on Social Injustice and Racism: Supporting racial justice and equitable opportunities for all has always been a part of who we are and not just what we do. The recent murder of George Floyd represents a continuation of a longstanding pattern of repressed racism in this country, and NSEA Swim stands united with those opposing such ethnocentrism.

We are committed to our mission of increasing multicultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity in the sport of swimming by fostering an inclusive environment. To reach this goal, we pledge to reduce the disparities existing in aquatics today, advocate for social justice in our local community, and partner with local agencies and representatives to achieve equitable resources in our community. We believe the color of a person’s skin should never stand in the way of learning to swim and being safe around water.
